Live-Action ‘Rugrats’ Movie With CGI Talking Babies in Development by ‘Pitch Perfect’ Director
Paramount Pictures is developing an exciting live-action, CGI hybrid movie based on the beloved 1990s Nickelodeon series ‘Rugrats’. Directed by Jason Moore, known for his work on ‘Pitch Perfect’, this new film aims to capture the charm of the original series while introducing a fresh cinematic experience.
The movie will prominently feature iconic characters such as Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and Phil and Lil DeVille, who will be animated in a live-action setting, reminiscent of how ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ blended CGI with real-world elements. The script for this highly anticipated film is co-written by Saturday Night Live comedian Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, a talented screenwriter and comedian who has been with SNL since 2014.

Their combined comedic expertise promises to infuse the movie with a humorous and engaging narrative that both new and returning fans can appreciate. The original ‘Rugrats’ series, which aired for nine successful seasons, captured the adventures of a group of toddlers led by Tommy Pickles, voiced by E.G. Daily.
It became a cultural phenomenon, and its legacy includes three animated films released in theatres between 1998 and 2003, as well as a sequel series titled ‘All Grown Up!’, which followed the same characters as they navigated their teenage years. The series even saw a reboot in 2021 on Paramount+.
Notably, the co-creators of the original ‘Rugrats’, Arlene Klasky and Gábor Csupó, are also on board as producers for this new adaptation, alongside Karen Rosenfelt. Their involvement ensures that the film stays true to the spirit of the original series while appealing to a new generation of viewers.
With a blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, this ‘Rugrats’ movie is poised to be a delightful addition to the franchise. Fans eagerly await further updates on its release and the adventures that await Tommy and his friends in this exciting new format.
