One of the cutest friendships in pop music has had some pretty unique moments over the past several weeks.
Since both songs were released in April, Lizzo and Harry Styles have been jointly dominating the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their respective No. 1 singles ‘About Damn Time’ and ‘As It Was’; the ‘Truth Hurts’ singer recently acknowledged this in a hilarious TikTok in which she impersonates her well-known friend.
In the TikTok video, Lizzo initially enlarges a picture of Styles before imitating his low voice and British accent as he says, “Look at us being at the top of the charts.”
The Hot 100 presently has ‘As It Was’ at No. 2 and ‘About Damn Time’ at No. 3, while Beyoncé’s lead single from Renaissance, ‘Break My Soul,’ is at No. 1. Styles and Lizzo’s song rankings from the previous week were flipped, but Bey remained at the top.
But the week before the release of ‘Break My Soul,’ ‘About Damn Time’ held the top place, followed by ‘As It Was’ at No. 2. The former song became Lizzo’s second No. 1 single in her career when it dethroned Styles’ amazing ten-week reign at the top during the final week of July.
Since 2019, Lizzo and the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer have been close friends and have taken turns enthusiastically singing each other’s songs (Styles sang ‘Juice’ on BBC Radio’s Live Lounge and Lizzo followed with ‘Adore You’). From there, a friendship filled with adorable award show exchanges and special concert appearances developed, with Lizzo most famously joining Styles on-stage for his Coachella 2022 performance.
