Lizzo in Search for Dancers Who Look Like Her for Her Upcoming Video
Lizzo wrote on Instagram, “This is the finest moment of my career yet.”
“It’s a big-girl brawl!” Lizzo’s reality competition show ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’; has a premiere date and trailer. The show is to premiere on Prime Video on March 25th.
“Girls that look like me don’t receive representation,” the “Truth Hurts” singer says in the teaser for the show, which follows the artist as she searches for backup dancers for her next tour. “It’s time for me to roll up my sleeves and look for them on my own.”
Lizzo and her troupe of performers reject the world’s white, slim, and Eurocentric ideals of beauty in the teaser, which features a succession of moments that are both unashamedly self-assured and vulnerable. “It’s hard to love oneself in a world that doesn’t love you back,” the 33-year-old pop diva cries. ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’ appears to be both emotional and cutthroat in the teaser.” The three-time Grammy winner tells her hopefuls at one point, “You might not make it into the show.”
Lizzo posted the trailer on her social media sites, describing the show as “the finest moment of my career thus far.” “Y’all know how difficult it’s been finding dancers who look like me,” she wrote on Instagram. But if I have to have a TV programme to show the world how valuable we large grrrls are, B—H IMMA DO IT.”
Lizzo’s lively eight-episode show, directed by Nneka Onuorah, will feature choreographers Tanisha Scott, Chawnta’ Marie Van, Shirlene Quigley, and Grace Holden, as well as a cameo appearance by SZA, and will premiere in March 2021.
