Lizzo Wins ‘People’s Champion’ at 2022 People’s Choice Awards

Lizzo won the ‘People’s Champion’ award, along with the song of 2022 for ‘About Damn Time’ at the People’s Choice awards. The People’s Champion award was a special, previously-announced award. Lizzo’s acceptance speech showed just how deserving she was of the award. 

In her acceptance speech, Lizzo said, “Imma be honest, when I first heard about this award, I was on the fence about whether I should accept. Because, if I’m the people’s champ, I don’t need a trophy for championing people. You know what I’m saying?” She added that she has used her platform to amplify marginalized voices since the beginning of her career.

As part of her acceptance speech, she introduced activists and people who she thought are worthy of the spotlight. She then welcomed and introduced a range of human rights advocates, freedom fighters, artists and walking inspirations. 

The singer was also nominated for ‘Album of 2022’ and ‘Favourite Female Music Performer’ at the 2022 People’s Choice awards.

Lizzo attained mainstream success after the release of her third studio album, ‘Cuz I Love You’. Songs ‘Juice’ and ‘Tempo’ were from the same album. The viral song, ‘Truth Hurts’ first came out in 2017, in a deluxe version of the album, but didn’t  become a hit until 2 years later.
