Lorde Just Surfaced with a Promise of New Music
Lorde’s been absent from the music scene for quite a while. And that’s why, when she sent out a personal email updating her fans, the world collectively breathed out a sigh of relief. Which was soon followed by a loud exclamation, because Lorde also announced that she’s got new music on the way.
She started off in quite the poetic fashion, telling fans that it had been “a minute since we chatted” and that she missed them dearly. “Do you wear your hair long or short now? Did you take your piercings out? You’ll probably be pleased to know my hair is big and long again. I knew the next record would need the longest and wildest hair yet,” she continued, leaving us with our eyebrows raised.
After some updates about her life in New Zealand and how the pandemic has affected her home country, she revealed that her musical career took a bit of a backseat after the passing of her dog, Pearl. But thankfully, her hiatus didn’t last too long. Well, that is, until this global pandemic struck.
How Much Longer Until Lorde Treats us With New Music?
“I started going back to the studio again in December, just for something to do, and to my surprise, good things came out. Happy, playful things. I felt my melodic muscles flexing and strengthening.”
She further explained that she had teamed up with producer Jack Antonoff and they had started cookin’ something up in the studios, “ And then, of course, the world shut down. We’re still working away — Jack and I FaceTimed for over an hour this morning going over everything. But it’ll take a while longer.”
She promised fans that the best treat she could give them was new music and she’s preparing to deliver just that. “In my opinion, the greatest treat I can give you is work that will last ten, twenty, thirty years. And that kind of work takes time. I can tell you, this new thing, it’s got its own colours now. If you know anything about my work, you’ll know what that means,” she added.
It’s no surprise that her fans are eagerly awaiting her next project because the last treat we received was her 2017 album, ‘Melodrama’. In fact, a number of fans have also been hoping for a collab with Billie Eilish. Considering that Eilish has named Lorde as one of her biggest musical inspirations. But Later in the year (2017), she embarked on her world tour, which was abruptly cancelled in 2018. This was due to political strife in one of her scheduled concert locations – Israel.
But, if there’s one thing the world can expect – it’s that her new project will arrive with quite the bang. “The work is so f—ing good, my friend, I am truly jazzed for you to hear it,” she concluded.
