Luke Combs And Billy Strings Come Together For ‘The Great Divide’

Tim McGraw and Tyler Hubbard’s please for unity has brought the boys, Luke Combs and Billy Strings – the bluegrass musician to the yard. The latter duo is here with a new track titled ‘The Great Divide’.

This rendition of the track takes a rather dark and what seems like a cautionary tone compared to McGraw and Hubbard’s ‘Undivided’. Combs croons the lyrics, “We’re striking matches on the TV/ Setting fires on our phones…we’re all so far, far apart now, it’s as deep as it is wide/ We’re about to fall apart now/ Of we can’t reach the other side/ We’ve gotta find a way across the great divide.”

The track that sounds rootsy and acoustic has Combs and the guitar savant giving it a positive turn as he says, he has seen strangers love each other “like a mother does her son/ What we see ain’t all that’s going on.” Charlie Worsham laces the midtempo track with his mandolin and banjo melody.

‘The Great Divide’

The song that Combs co-wrote with Strings and Wyatt Durrette in June of 2020, was originally an unfinished bluegrass project that the singer was working on. “It felt like the right time to put this song out. When we wrote it, there were a lot of crazy things going on in the world.” Combs said.

“There’s still a lot of crazy things going on in the world. And I just felt like I had some stuff to say. It’s not meant to be political. It’s not meant to try and tell you what to think or tell you how to believe. That’s not my job. It’s just a guy kinda saying the way he was feeling when he wrote it.”, Combs said talking about how he couldn’t wait to put it out there for the listeners to listen.

“This song is our interpretation of the conflicts and tension we had been witnessing/experiencing around the time we wrote it. We wanted to shine a little light on the situation and offer a bit of hope during what has been a tough time for many.” Strings added.

The Potential Anthem

The track beautifully encapsulates the things outlining these divisive times metaphorically like those neighbours building walls and convictions that do more harm than good. Combs sings, “there’s already a canyon between us” as Strings strums those guitar strings. “We’re all so far, so far apart now / It’s as deep as it is wide / We’re about to fall apart now / If we can’t reach the other side / We gotta find a way across the great divide,” goes the chorus of the track.

Combs, in an official statement, said, ‘The Great Divide’ is a part of his ultimate vision of recording a whole bluegrass album. This could be the first stepping stone to that goal. “Something that I’ve always wanted to do is write and put out a bluegrass album. This is a song that was supposed to be a part of that project. It’s not a lead single or a lead-in to that project yet, because that is not done.” He explained.

Hits And Grammys!

Luke Combs recently had a No. 1 hit with his latest single ‘Better Together’. This just extended the singer’s streak of achieving the chart-topper with every one of his tracks becoming chart toppers throughout his career. The guitar savant Billy Strings, although new to the country music scene, is ensuring a speedy way up to the top. Known for his guitar prowess, he will receive the Best Bluegrass Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards for “Home”. Check the album below:
