Madonna Joins the Protests on Crutches
Last week, a number of artists came together to honour George Floyd and fight for racial justice. Stars like Beyonce, Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish and countless others have been extremely active on social media, putting out petitions and their thoughts on this issue. While artists like Halsey, Ariana Grande, Yungblud, Jennifer Lopez and more have taken their protests on foot. Now, protesters on ground, in crutches, is none other than Madonna herself.
The star was spotted at a Black Lives Matter protest in Parliament Square. The event was one of dozens held from Australia and New Zealand to Paris, Warsaw, Lisbon and Montreal in solidarity with peaceful protests across the U.S. against racism.
The singer recently had to cancel a number of ‘Madame X’ tour dates due to a painful knee injury. And yet, it looks like that didn’t stop her from coming out onto the streets, chanting slogans and being there for her fellow protesters.
Madonna also took to social media to give us glimpses of what was happening on ground. She captioned her post saying, “Peaceful Protest with the Fam in The U.K. We marched from Parliament to 10 Downing street. It was an Honor for all of us to be there!! My children were thrilled to be there!!” tagging the names of her children who joined her.
Madonna & Her Odd Way of Honouring George Floyd
It’s worth mentioning that this is a rather brave move on Madonna’s part. Considering the fact that she recently came under fire for posting a video clip of her adopted son dancing to Michael Jackson’s ‘They Don’t Really Care About Us’ to “honour and pay tribute to George and his family”. While she might’ve put this out with nothing but good intentions, a lot of people did feel that it wasn’t the appropriate response to such brutality.
But now, it looks like she’s doing things, well, the right way – if we can call it that. Along with Madonna, a number of other musicians have taken their protests on ground, holding up placards, helping injured protesters and simply unting for a cause.
