Madonna Under Fire for Not Adhering to Social Distancing
Pop icon, Madonna, has come under fire for attending a party right after she was tested positive for coronavirus antibodies. Just over the weekend, the singer took to Instagram to share a black and white video that revealed that she had been tested positive.
Everyone’s outrage is understandable considering that a few days later, she attended the celebrity photographer, Steven Klein’s birthday party. The party was held either at Madonna’s or Mr Klein’s home – both live in Bridgehampton, New York. The star is seen hugging and maintaining close contact with a couple of guests, particularly Steven Klein himself.
While most guests at the party attended virtually via Zoom; Madonna was one of the handful of in-person attendees. Perhaps what makes this all the more upsetting is that now, everyone’s well aware of the gravity of the situation. With frontline workers risking their lives to keep things running, it’ll be all for nothing if this kind of behaviour persists.
While none of the in-person guests are seen wearing masks, what’s even more bizarre is the presence of Madonna’s children. Both of them are very young making this matter even more concerning.
Madonna’s manager, Michele L Ruiz, attempted to clear the air with this message, “She was in her own home… There were about 5 people that came to her home (or Steven’s?) to celebrate Steven’s birthday, and all these people have been quarantined for over a month as well. Please stop the madness. She would never put herself or her children at risk.”
And yet, it’s very possible that these 5 people can be infected, so this defense doesn’t make much sense at all. Either way, the social media storm this news has created will take a good while to die down. Let’s just hope that the next time Madonna makes headlines, the news is good.
