Margot Robbie’s ‘The Sims’ Movie Receives Exciting New Update

The iconic plumbobs are set to make their big-screen debut soon. Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit the development of ‘The Sims’, a film adaptation of the beloved video game franchise by Electronic Arts. While plot details are still under wraps, the project boasts an impressive production team, with Margot Robbie leading the charge. Fresh off her success with last year’s blockbuster ‘Barbie’, Robbie is producing the film through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.

Although specific storylines haven’t been revealed, the movie will draw inspiration from ‘The Sims’ video game series, which allows players to create virtual lives by building homes, forming families, and developing relationships.

The franchise, known for its distinct elements like the quirky 'Simlish' language, green plumbobs, and its signature ‘woohooing,’ has become one of the best-selling video game series of all time. According to EA's VP and ‘The Sims’ general manager, Kate Gorman, the film will reflect the creativity and joy the game has brought players for over 25 years.

The film, which landed at Amazon MGM earlier this year, will be directed by ‘Loki’ director Kate Herron, who also co-wrote the script with Briony Redman. Robbie, credited with helping bring the project to life, will produce alongside Vertigo Entertainment and ‘The Sims’ team at Electronic Arts.

Herron and Redman will also serve as executive producers. No casting decisions have been announced yet, but with Robbie’s involvement, the film is set to have a strong creative foundation.

Robbie’s influence in Hollywood continues to grow following the massive success of ‘Barbie’, which became the highest-grossing film for Warner Bros. Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment is staying busy with several projects, including the comedy ‘My Old Ass’, starring Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella, and a film adaptation of the comic hero ‘Avengelyne’, directed by Olivia Wilde. LuckyChap is also developing a ‘Monopoly’ movie and producing the upcoming Netflix series ‘Sirens’, starring Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock.

No release date has been announced for ‘The Sims’ movie yet.
