Mariah Carey Closes at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade With Performance of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’

Mariah Carey performs ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Paula Adbul, Lea Michele, Jordin Sparks, Sean Paul, Dionne Warwick and many other  artists performed at the annual parade.

Performing her well-known Christmas hit, Carey concluded the Thanksgiving celebrations. Her 11-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, joined her onstage and engaged in the singing and dancing.

The artist attempted to claim the exclusive title of the 'Queen of Christmas,' but was refused the trademark.

The application was turned down because the star's business, Lotion LLC, did not react to the oposition by Elizabeth Chan, who was decribed as the 'queen of Christmas' few years ago.

Carey would have had the legal authority to prevent others from using the title in music or products if the trademark application had been successful. She was also denied a trademark on 'QOC' and 'Princess Christmas' by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

“I’m so happy,” Chan told the Wall Street Journal. “It’s my life’s work.” She previously told Variety that she opposed Carey trademarking ‘Queen of Christmas’ because “no one person should hold onto anything around Christmas or monopolise it in the way that Mariah seeks to in perpetuity”. She added: “Christmas is for everyone. It’s meant to be shared; it’s not meant to be owned.”

After 26 years since its release, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ finally reached the top of the UK charts in December 2020.

Speaking about the honour in her Big Read cover interview, Carey said: “It means that someone smarter than myself suggested I do a Christmas album as a young, young girl and I was like: ‘Hmmm – doesn’t that happen later in life?’”

“And then I said, ‘But you know what? I love Christmas!'”

Elsewhere, next month, Carey will host a two-hour performance special for CBS with a Christmas theme.
