Mariah Carey recently performed at a Christmas concert, the first one post-COVID. The performance was made even more special because the singer was joined on stage by her 11-year-old daughter, Monroe.
Mariah told the crowd that it was her first duet with her daughter. The pair sang ‘Away in a Manger’.
While introducing Monroe, Carey said, “This is my baby girl, here. Eleven years ago, I got the greatest gift. You know what, I don’t have birthdays, but the birthing day was the greatest gift ever, when I had my twins Roc and Roe [Moroccan and Monroe], and once again I’d like to introduce you to my daughter, Monroe.”
The mother-daughter duo stunned in sparkly white dresses, complete with tiaras. The set was Christmas themed and included Christmas trees, presents and toy soldiers. The setlist mostly consisted of Christmas songs. The set was completed with the highly-anticipated, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
The concert took place in Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. The show was attended by 13000 people. The concert was the first of four, with two set to take place in Toronto and the other 2 in New York. Mariah repeatedly referred to the show as a “dress rehearsal and trial run”, though it was nothing short of glamour and the festive spirit.
During the show, Carey kept her audience engaged as she discussed the hardships of lockdown and kept praising her band.
Mariah shares twins Moroccan and Monroe with Nick Cannon, to whom she was married from 2008 to 2016.
