Mariah Carey has disclosed her desire to release the secret grunge album she recorded in 1995. In 2020, she revealed that she had secretly worked on a grunge album titled ‘Someone’s Ugly Daughter’ while also recording her 1995 album ‘Daydream’. However, nearly three decades later, no music from the grunge project has been released. That may change soon, as the ‘We Belong Together’ singer expressed that she hasn’t given up on the album’s release. During a recent episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, she shared her thoughts on the matter: “I’m so mad I haven’t done that yet.”
Carey then inquired about where she could release the album, to which Rogers suggested she release it independently through Garage Band.
She replied: “I could do that. It’s a good album. OK, you will hear it. I was getting life from that, seriously. It was jokes, as well. They’re everlasting.”

She wrote of ‘Someone’s Ugly Daughter’ in her 2020 memoir: “I’d bring my little alt-rock song to the band and hum a silly guitar riff. They would pick it up and we would record it immediately. It was irreverent, raw, and urgent, and the band got into it. I actually started to love some of the songs. I would fully commit to my character.”
“I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every move I made was so calculated and manicured.

“I wanted to break free, let loose, and express my misery—but I also wanted to laugh. I totally looked forward to doing my alter-ego band sessions after Daydream each night.”
In recent news, Mariah Carey has faced a significant tragedy, as both her mother and sister passed away on the same day—just hours apart—in late August. The causes of their deaths have not been disclosed.
