Mario Kart World Introduces Binocular Stations for Free Roam Exploration

Nintendo has released new footage from Mario Kart World, revealing a fresh gameplay feature—binocular stations that players can use while exploring the game’s open world. These stations aim to enhance the Free Roam experience by offering a better view of the surrounding environment.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 set to launch on June 5, it won’t be long before players get to explore everything Mario Kart World has in store. Leading up to the release, Nintendo has been unveiling various game elements, including new modes, characters, and maps. One recent highlight is the addition of binocular stations, a mechanic that allows players to change their perspective for a more detailed look at the terrain. Shared online by user Stealth, the gameplay shows players driving up to these stations and switching to a zoomable, rotatable view—ideal for spotting areas of interest in the distance.

This isn’t the first time binoculars have appeared in a Mario title. Similar features were used in Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Mario Odyssey to help players scout levels. In Mario Kart World, this mechanic seems to support the game’s increased focus on exploration, offering more ways to interact with the world beyond racing.

The feature has been well received so far, with many fans wishing it had been part of the recent Nintendo Direct. According to player reactions, the binoculars do a great job of showing off the scale of Free Roam mode and hint at the variety of activities available. Some fans also noticed a new remix of the Super Mario World theme in the background of the footage, which was praised for its nostalgic yet updated sound.

While it’s still unclear how frequently these binocular stations will appear, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out—Mario Kart World launches alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 in just a few weeks.
