Mark Ronson Reveals How he Persuaded Dua Lipa to Appear on The ‘Barbie’ Soundtrack

Dua Lipa joined the massive soundtrack for the new ‘Barbie’ movie, and Mark Ronson revealed how he got her to do it. A star-studded soundtrack including songs by Lizzo, HAIM, Charli XCX, Tame Impala and others was unveiled this week for the eagerly awaited Greta Gerwig-directed movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (who is also set to perform on the album).

The lead song from the soundtrack, ‘Dance The Night,’ by Lipa, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, was promptly released.

“It started with a DM,” Ronson said on Instagram. “So over the moon excited that our song from this incredible movie is finally out today.”

Ronson penned the following to Lipa in a snapshot of his message: “Hey! I’m doing the songs for the ‘Barbie’ movie with Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.”

“It’s dir. by Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Ladybird) and it’s maybe the funniest script I’ve ever read, like [redacted] funny… there’s a song with a huge 60 person dance number with the whole cast.” He added, “I only have the track so far, as they started rehearsals, but I would f*****g love it if you would consider co-writing and starring on it. I honestly think the movie’s going to be incredible.”

The new song debuted last week with a music video that was inspired by ‘Barbie’ and included an appearance from writer, director and executive producer Greta Gerwig.

Lipa also displayed a number of items from her newest clothing line, ‘La Vacanza,’ which was created in association with fashion icon, Donatella Versace. Lipa not only contributes to the lead single but also makes a cameo appearance in the movie as a mermaid version of Barbie. The project’s third trailer, which was released last week, gave more background on the plot, which seems to examine Barbie’s realisation of life’s flaws before she and Ken step out into the real world.
