Marvel Reveals The End of The Multiverse Saga

Reducing the amount of MCU releases in 2024 has shown to be a wise choice. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has had time to shine without another release coming right after, as it offers a discernible improvement in quality over other entries in the Multiverse Saga. This reset appears to be helping the next movies as well, suggesting that the MCU is getting back on track after losing some of the enchantment that made its previous films so popular.

This shift in focus was timely because, in an interview with Screen Rant, Brad Winderbaum, Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation at Marvel Studios, stated that the Multiverse Saga will be wrapped up in 2027 with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. "I believe Secret Wars will be a fantastic conclusion to the saga... it will make the journey feel worthwhile," Winderbaum said. Though the conclusion of the epic is obvious, the events that follow are less mysterious than the events leading up to the Secret Wars.

Disney+'s ‘Agatha All Along’ is the only ongoing project in the MCU at the moment, but 2025 will see several significant releases that continue the Multiverse Saga. On 14th February, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ will be released, starring Harrison Ford as the Red Hulk and Anthony Mackie in his debut solo role as Captain America. The ‘Thunderbolts’ will debut in May, and ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ will bring the Netflix Marvel series into the fold in March. Things become less certain after them.

Set for release in July 2025, ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is set in the 1960s (or another multiverse version of that era). Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is also being discussed, with the prospect of an earlier post-credits scene appearance. Other possible possibilities include a new Blade movie and a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will ultimately bring the Multiverse Saga to a close, but it's still uncertain what will happen next.

Secret Wars is seen to have the capacity to simplify the complex multiverse story and reset the MCU to a single timeline. Additionally, some think the movie would open the door for the X-Men and other mutant characters to join the MCU by acting as a gateway into the Mutant Saga. But for the time being, Marvel's plans outside of Secret Wars are still unknown.

Two primary options come to mind when we consider the MCU's future: either a reboot or an extension of the current sagas. It might be challenging to disentangle the MCU's convoluted timeline, and even for Secret Wars, it might be difficult to win ‘Avengers: Endgame’. In contrast, a reboot would provide a fresh start, enabling new performers and producers to completely recreate the MCU, this time with access to the entire cast of characters, including mutants.
