Meg Ryan’s Thoughts on THAT Awkward 2003 Interview – Revealed!
One of the most embarrassing moments in British television history is Meg Ryan’s 2003 interview with the BBC. Because of her roles in beloved films, such as ‘When Harry Met Sally’, Ryan was hailed as Hollywood’s rom-com darling at the time. Her choice to play a daring new role in Jane Campion’s sensual thriller ‘The Cut’, however, was a significant departure from her typical genre and was unpopular with some critics and fans. She was asked pointed questions about going nude on screen by UK host Michael Parkinson during the interview. Parkinson grew increasingly irritable as the tension increased, and Ryan’s answers became more abrupt. “Wrap it up,” was her direct response when asked what she would do if she were conducting the interview.
Ryan reflected on the encounter in a subsequent interview with ‘The Times of London,’ describing it as a “bad” experience. She clarified that she had anticipated one and intended to leave during it because she was used to American discussion shows having breaks.

But there was no respite, and she endured the awkward conversation. Ryan responded that she didn’t feel the need to think about Parkinson’s again when asked whether she had discussed the interview with him afterwards. Parkinson expressed sorrow for his interview style in 2021, stating that it wasn’t a pleasant experience for them both.
Ryan, who is well-known for her iconic parts in Nora Ephron’s movies, such as ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’, expressed her admiration for the late author’s impact. She revealed that Ephron’s counsel, which included everything from professional choices to life lessons, was consistently accurate.
Ryan most recently directed the romantic comedy ‘What Happens Later’ in 2023. In the movie, which tells the tale of a former couple reuniting in an abandoned airport, she costarred with David Duchovny.
