Meghan Trainor Speaks out !!

January was quite a busy month for Meghan Trainor as she generously gave us a string of hints about her latest album, before dropping ‘Treat Myself’ at the end of the month! Among those hints, perhaps the most exciting news was that of her collaboration with not just Nicki Minaj, but The Pussycat Dolls too!

Trainor’s new album is her first full-length set since the May 2016 release of her sophomore set ‘Thank You’ and she’s grown a lot since then. Now, she’s married, she’s a whole lot happier, oh and she’s got four dogs too! This clearly reflects in her album, as Trainor herself described it as “fun, emotional and dancey”.

Now, her collaboration with The Pussycat Dolls was the talk of the town for a while! They teamed up for a remixed version of Trainor’s track, ‘Genetics’ and the origin story goes like this; after a few grueling days of song-writing, Trainor sent Nicole Scherzinger, frontwoman of The Pussycat Dolls, just a snippet of the track and she had the best possible reaction. “ I’ll never forget the voice note she sent back. And she was screaming,” Meghan gushed, “It was like, “This song is such a smash! I love this!” And I heard rumors that The Pussycat Dolls were getting back together, but I wasn’t sure. ‘Cause I grew up watching them. I loved them. So I recorded it with her. Like, if it’s not gonna be The Pussycat Dolls, I’ll have “featuring Nicole.” And she killed it. The vocal was too easy for her. She had no sleep the night before, and she sang like she was ready to do a whole Broadway show.”

Well, they’re clearly a match made in heaven! Now, Trainor also opened up about her track, ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ which featured Nicki Minaj.

“Nice to Meet Ya” is so important to me because it’s one of my… I don’t know, my anthems that I love writing, that’s like, “I am who I am and that’s it, I’m not gonna change it for anybody else.” And I love the way I am,” she explained. Now, just like her love for The Pussycat Dolls, Meghan’s also a huge fan of Nicki. “I’ve worshipped her since I was, like, what, in middle school? Like, I love her. I love her talent. She’s actually the most talented songwriter, I feel like, especially for a woman in this hip-hop world,”she confessed.

Trainor’s grown a lot as a musician over the past few years and this album’s helped her recognize that. Speaking about her current outlook on both, her life and the kind of music she was producing, Trainor said, “Now I’m like, “This is what I want to wear, I wanna look as confident and happy as I feel.” And when that whole package is there, and you really know who you are and what you look like, and how you feel on the inside, it’s everything, and it makes this job so much more fun.”
