Metro Boomin Shared That he Felt “Really Hurt and Disappointed” by his Fallout With Drake

Metro Boomin recently reflected on his fallout with Drake, describing the experience as deeply hurtful and disappointing. The tension reportedly stemmed from a personal matter, unrelated to anything trivial like a romantic entanglement.

This revelation comes in the context of Metro Boomin and Future’s collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on the track Like That earlier this year, which reignited a long-standing feud between Drake and Lamar. The conflict escalated in May and included Lamar taking shots at both Drake and J. Cole on the song.

In an interview with GQ, excerpts of which were shared by Elliott Wilson on social media, Metro Boomin noted that the issue with Drake was significant and personal, emphasizing the emotional impact it had on him.

Metro Boomin has remained vague about the “personal issue” that led to his fallout with Drake but indicated that the situation was an ordinary disagreement amplified by public attention. He also clarified that the two albums he created with Future, We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, were not intended as direct attacks on Drake.

Addressing the speculation, Boomin dismissed the idea that they had spent two years crafting two albums solely to target Drake. He argued that it would be absurd to invest so much time, effort, and money into a project purely out of spite, noting that going over budget on such an endeavour would reflect an unhealthy level of animosity, which neither he nor Future shared.

The track Like That was reportedly the spark that reignited the long-standing feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, which escalated into a heated rap battle earlier this year. The conflict appeared to conclude in May when Lamar released Not Like Us and Drake responded with The Heart Part 6. However, Drake has since filed two lawsuits against Universal Music Group (UMG) in connection with Not Like Us. The first, filed in New York, accuses UMG of inflating streaming numbers for the song through alleged “pay-to-play” schemes. The second, filed in Texas, alleges defamation, asserting that UMG knowingly approved the song’s release despite Lamar’s lyrics accusing Drake of being a “pe**phile.”
