Michael Jackson to be Portrayed by Nephew Jaafar Jackson in Upcoming Biopic
The infamous Michael Jackson biopic will feature MJ’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the main lead. The movie will be directed by Antoine Fuqua.
“Proud to announce @jaafarjackson as Michael — the motion picture event that explores the journey of the man who became the King of Pop. Coming soon,” Fuqua stated in an Instagram post. The post features Jaafar, Jermaine Jackson’s son, dressed as his late uncle, and striking his iconic signature pose.
The biopic will be produced by Graham King, John Branca and John McClain, and will showcase about the musician’s life and career. The release date and further details are yet to be determined.
“Jaafar embodies my son. It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers,” said MJ’s mother, Katherine Jackson.
Michael Jackson had 13 No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart after receiving success as part of the family band.
Jackson, as a solo artist, peaked with ‘Thriller’, which became one of the best-selling albums of all time. It spent about 37 weeks atop the Billboard 200. This is before Jackson passed away in 2009 at age 50.
