Miley Cyrus Expressed Her Wish for People to Stop Criticizing Chappell Roan
Miley Cyrus has voiced her support for Chappell Roan and her complex relationship with fame. In a recent Harper’s Bazaar cover story, Cyrus addressed the public criticism Roan has faced and shared her perspective on the challenges of navigating the entertainment industry.
Cyrus explained that she had reached out to Roan after the latter spoke out against inappropriate behaviour from some superfans, including what Roan described as “predatory behaviour” and “nonconsensual interactions.” Reflecting on Roan’s experiences, Cyrus expressed her empathy, saying she hoped people would stop making things difficult for her. She acknowledged the added pressure of managing fame in the age of social media, noting that it was a different experience from her own early years in the industry. Cyrus also revealed that she has stepped back from platforms like Instagram, sharing that she no longer even knows her account’s password.
Roan has previously praised Cyrus for her influence, especially highlighting the singer’s ability to reinvent herself while staying authentic. She described Cyrus as someone who balances artistic and personal transformations with transparency. Roan also reflected on her childhood admiration for Cyrus, recalling that her first-ever concert was the Hannah Montana tour, where Cyrus performed with the Jonas Brothers. The memory of that experience, particularly Cyrus’s dramatic entrance from the ceiling, left a lasting impression on Roan and inspired her to dream of a similar career in music.
Roan also acknowledged parallels between her work and Cyrus’s, emphasizing her deep admiration for the pop star and her ongoing influence.
In the same interview, Miley Cyrus disclosed that she is currently working on a new album titled Something Beautiful, which draws inspiration from Pink Floyd. She explained that her vision for the project was to create her own version of The Wall, but with a more stylish, glamorous approach infused with pop culture elements. Cyrus described the album as a conceptual work aimed at addressing and alleviating aspects of what she sees as a troubled culture through music.
