Miley Cyrus Reveals She’s Working on a Pink Floyd-Inspired Album, ‘Something Beautiful’

Miley Cyrus is working on a new album titled Something Beautiful, which she revealed will be inspired by Pink Floyd’s The Wall and also be a visual album. Though the release date hasn’t been confirmed, it’s expected to come out next year. In a recent interview, Cyrus shared that she first watched The Wall as a teenager with a brother and close friend. They rented a limousine, wore 1970s fur coats, and smoked ca**abis, creating a memorable experience that she still feels connected to. Her concept for the album, she explained, was inspired by The Wall but with a more glamorous and pop-culture infused twist.

She described the vibe of the album as “hypnotising and glamorous,” with the intention to “medicate somewhat of a sick culture through music.” Cyrus emphasized that she wanted to be a “human psychedelic” for listeners, hoping to alter their frequencies and offer a more elevated experience. She noted that although the album touches on heavy topics like destruction, heartbreak, and death, it presents these themes in a beautiful way, highlighting that even the darkest times can hold beauty.

Cyrus is collaborating with her boyfriend, Maxx Morando, the drummer for Liily, who has produced several tracks for the album, including the title track. She mentioned that she has always worked with people she loves, including her father and ex-husband, and that Maxx’s inspiration has been a major driving force in her music. Another key collaborator on Something Beautiful is Shawn Everett, who also worked with her on Endless Summer Vacation and has worked with artists like Alabama Shakes, Kacey Musgraves, and The Killers. Everett spoke about the wide range of influences that Cyrus draws from in her creative process.

One of the significant influences for Cyrus is the 2018 horror film Mandy, starring Nicolas Cage, which she described as a favourite. She even considered remaking it as a musical and wanted to play Cage’s role. Though the remake didn’t materialize, the film’s director, Panos Cosmatos, remains involved in her album, which he described as more experimental than anything she has done, but still pop-driven.
