Millie Bobby Brown Shows Interest in Portraying Britney Spears in a Biopic

While acknowledging that it is not her story to tell, Millie Bobby Brown has once again indicated interest in playing Britney Spears.

‘The Stranger Things’ actress initially brought up the concept in 2022, stating that she felt a connection to Spears’ experience, especially growing up in the spotlight and that she wanted to depict a real person.  Given her early exposure to celebrity, Brown felt qualified to meaningfully bring Spears’ narrative to life.

Spears, however, made it apparent that she was not interested in a biopic about her life by swiftly rejecting the notion.  In response to rumours, she stated that she was still very much alive and that she wasn’t prepared for another person to share her story.

Brown re-examined the subject in a recent interview with Access Hollywood, highlighting her admiration for Spears and saying that she would love to be involved in telling her story, but she fully supports Spears in determining how it should be shared. Meanwhile, last year, Universal Pictures announced that Spears’ best-selling memoir, ‘The Woman in Me’, would serve as the basis for a new biopic, with director Jon M. Chu of ‘Wicked’ and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ attached to the project.

Chu hinted that the film would explore themes of celebrity culture, fame, and how young stars—especially women—are treated by the public and industry. Spears added to the rumours by implying that her covert collaboration with Chu was a fictional musical rather than a traditional biopic

In its first week of release, ‘The Woman In Me’ sold over a million copies, making it an enormous hit.  The memoir explores Spears’ personal life, career, and the contentious 13-year conservatorship that ended in 2021.

Brown has previously stated that she would be open to playing Halsey in a biopic, in addition to her interest in playing Spears, after the singer indicated that she would be a perfect fit for the part.
