Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘Nineteen Steps’ to Receive Big Screen Adaptation

Millie Bobby Brown continues to make significant strides in her career, not only through her acting but also as an author. The latest news reveals that her best-selling novel, ‘Nineteen Steps’, is set to be adapted into a feature film under the same name.

According to Deadline, sources have confirmed that the screen adaptation of the ‘Stranger Things’ star’s novel will be produced for Netflix, though the streaming giant has yet to officially comment. Brown will be heavily involved in the project, producing it under her PCMA banner, with plans to star in the film as well. Jonathan Rideback will co-produce through his Rideback production company, and Nick Reynolds will serve as executive producer. The screenplay adaptation will be handled by Anthony McCarten, a four-time Oscar nominee known for films like ‘The Theory of Everything’, ‘The Two Popes’, ‘Darkest Hour’, and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

McCarten’s upcoming project, ‘The Collaboration’, based on his play, explores the friendship between artists Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. As for Brown’s latest endeavour, ‘Nineteen Steps’ is a historical drama set during World War II and inspired by her grandmother’s experiences.

The story centres on 18-year-old Nellie Morris, who lives in East London and faces the harsh realities of war, including bombings, rationing, and separation from loved ones. The novel also explores her romance with an American airman named Ray and touches on the tragic Bethnal Green Tube disaster, where 173 people lost their lives during an air raid.

She also appeared in successful films like ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ and ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’. Looking ahead, she will star in the Russo Brothers’ ‘The Electric State’, alongside Chris Pratt, which is set to premiere on Netflix in March 2025.
