Musicians & Hollywood; A Look at Blossoming Friendships

The music industry has been witness to a number of blossoming friendships over the years. More recently, you might be familiar with Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B’s new bond forged out of their collaboration ‘WAP’. Or perhaps even Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, who also grew closer after they crafted their track, ‘Rain On Me’. BTS and Halsey would also fall under this umbrella.

But not all friendships are born from collaborations. Some bloom during difficult periods. Take Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift for example. During Gomez’s rough battle with lupus, Swift stuck right by her side. Similarly, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber have always answered each other’s calls when the going got tough. In fact, Bieber even credits Grande for coaxing him back into the music scene after his long hiatus.

But, these are all tales you might’ve heard before. On Friendship Day, we wanted to bring you new tales. Ones that speak of friendships between musicians and actors – some unexpected, some bizarre but all heartwarming.

Ed Sheeran & Russell Crowe

Yup, we can bet all our money that you didn’t see this one coming. This duo first met back in February 2015 when Russell presented Ed with the British Album of the Year trophy at the BRIT Awards. Since then, despite coming from two entirely different worlds, their friendship has truly blossomed. As Sheeran himself once said, “I’ve started hanging out with Russell Crowe because he loves getting drunk and I love getting drunk. We don’t get anything from each other, other than just a night out. We get the enjoyment of hanging out rather…There is no boost in either of our careers from our association.”

More recently, Crowe even opened up about Ed’s innovative use of Grammy trophies. We’ll let the legendary actor spill the beans himself.

And if you’d like a tad bit more proof on how close they are, here you go. We’ve got you covered –

Selena Gomez & Jennifer Aniston

Now, as dramatic as this sounds, some friendships are led by the strings of fate and destiny. And here’s why: according to Selena Gomez, she actually ran into Jennifer Aniston in the bathroom at a Vanity Fair party. Attempting to keep your composure at such times is no easy feat. After their odd meet-up, Selena confessed,

“My heart stopped and I freaked out and I ran to my mom.” And at that moment we were all living vicariously through the young star.

Since then, both stars had the opportunity to bond more as they shared the same management company (another strange twist of fate?). And while Jennifer Aniston was guest-hosting ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ back in January, we were given a taste of how close both artists really were.

“We’ve known each other for years,” Aniston said to Gomez “You’ve been to my house. We’ve had pizza. A girl after my own heart, do we love a pizza or what? We love pizza.” Now while you digest the fact that Jen and Selena have actual sleepovers, these few words from the former will hit just as hard –

“She’s just like a little cherub that I feel like I wanna take care of.”

Pitbull & John Travolta

Ever had a close friend who decided to get the same haircut as you? Or perhaps even encouraged you to pull out that matching outfit – just to twin together? Well, Pitbull and John Travolta share exactly this kind of relationship.

It all started when Pitbull adopted meme culture and sent Travolta edited photos showing him what he’d look like bald. And as expected, it didn’t take long for the legendary actor to say goodbye to his wispy locks. In fact, Travolta even went viral in January 2019 when he first revealed his look to the masses in an Instagram post.

Not long after his strange endeavour, John Travolta once again showed his fondness for the rap sensation when he busted out some moves to Pitbull’s hit tune, ‘Fireball’. “I don’t always dance in the morning but when I do it’s to @pitbull!” the 66-year-old actor noted on Instagram. And a little after this, the duo finally came face-to-face during the premiere of John’s film ‘Gotti’, as Pitbull also had a hand to play in its soundtrack.

And ever since, this friendship has remained watertight.

Taylor Swift & Blake Lively

It’s a known fact that Taylor Swift has a lot of friends across industries – if her ‘Bad Blood’ music video is anything to go by. So, it’s no surprise that the star also shares a close relationship with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.

Our first look at their blossoming friendship was when Swift was on tour in Australia. She and Lively were spotted at a theme park having a riot of a time.

Since then, we’ve gotten glimpses of their friendship through social media updates and lately – even though Swift’s music. Speaking of social media updates, Lively once sent Taylor Swift a pie which featured the faces of her cats, Meredith and Olivia. Upon opening up her present, Swift was ecstatic, to say the least.

And more recently, coming to the music front – Taylor Swift gifted Lively with something absolutely charming. The lyrics of ‘betty’ from her latest album, “folklore” mentioned Lively and Reynolds’ first two children – Inez and James by name. And it didn’t take long for fans to connect the dots, as they soon unveiled the fact that the track was also named after the couple’s new baby girl. Blake Lively’s response to this gesture was proof of their heartwarming relationship:

“Like you, folklore is full of heart, soul, humour, passion, intelligence, wit, whimsy, reality, imagination, strength, vulnerability, and above all things: love. We Love you.”

Adele & Jennifer Lawrence

Now they, they are truly a force to be reckoned with. It all began when the pair first met at the 2013 Academy Awards. Back then, Lawrence bagged the award for best actress in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and Adele performed and won in the Best Original Song category for ‘Skyfall’.

Speaking of their meet-up, Jennifer Lawrence had this to say:

“Adele and I met at the Oscars in 2013. I remember sneaking backstage while she performed “Skyfall,” trying to squeeze a ball gown past a pile of ropes and cables just to get a little closer. See her from another angle as if to peek behind the Great Oz’s curtain. I had been a fan of hers since ‘Chasing Pavements.'”

Since then, the duo has gone on dinner dates together. Jennifer Lawrence has supported Adele during countless shows, even during her sold-out Radio City concert, in 2015. They’ve gushed about each other during interviews, shown up at birthday parties and even gone on Women’s marches together – specifically the 2018 Women’s March in Los Angeles.

Now, this sounds like some hardcore BFF territory. It’s nice to see that they’ve come a long way from admiring one another from afar to truly forming a close bond. As Jennifer Lawrence once articulately put,

“What you don’t see is what a wonderful mother she is. What a wonderful partner and friend she is. That she makes her son’s Halloween costumes. Adele is a gift, an international treasure, but she’s also sweet, funny, intelligent and beautiful.”

And there you have it! So many close bonds formed with some of the most unlikely duos. Here’s celebrating all these lovely relationships and too many more in the future!
