On August 21, 2020, rapper Nas explained on an interview with Power 106 Los Angeles that he meant “no disrespect” to Doja Cat. Recently, the rapper released a track titled ‘Ultra-Black’ in which he uses the name of the ‘Say So ‘ singer in one of his verses. As a result, the internet exploded with speculation that the rapper had written the lyrics to diss Doja Cat.
Nas Clears The Air
In the interview, Nas and his collaborator on the track Hit-Boy cleared the air on what the usage of Doja’s name means. The New-York rapper said, “I just was really saying a rhyme that rhymed with ‘Ultra Black’. I rhymed that word with ‘ultra black,’ I didn’t even think of it. It’s all love, it’s all love, you know what I’m sayin’? It was like ‘Michael Blackson black.'”
And that wasn’t all that the pair left us with. His co-collaborator Hit-Boy gave his two cents on it when he said, “It literally is, Doja Cat’s the opposite of Michael Blackson. That’s how I looked at it,” before Nas jumped in to add, “It’s bars. It’s lines. We play with words, man.”
Well, the lyrics of the song read as, “Sometimes I’m over-black, even my clothes are black/ Cash Money with the white tee and the soldier rag/ We goin’ ultra black, unapologetically black/ The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black.” With lyrics like those, I can’t blame Doja Cat’s fans for getting upset.
In response to the release of this, Doja Cat has announced that she’ll be releasing a track titled ‘Nas’ this week. Fans can’t help but wonder that this may be a diss track in response to the track from Nas.
Whether all of this is just all of us being caught up in a web of lies or whether there’s some truth behind all this remains a mystery that we all can’t wait to have answered.
