Neil Young: 45 Years Later We Finally Deserve ‘Homegrown’

Neil Young finally thinks us worthy of receiving ‘Homegrown’. The album that was recorded in 1975 will do exactly that: transport you to 1975 — 45 years ago.

In a heart-wrenching statement that came with the album, Neil Young said, “I apologize. This album Homegrown should have been there for you a couple of years after Harvest.” How could you hold it against him when he comes with such love.

He continues to say, explaining what the album is about and more importantly why didn’t he release these 12 songs for us in 1975, “It’s the sad side of a love affair.”

Neil Young continues, “The damage done. The heartache. I just couldn’t listen to it. I wanted to move on. So I kept it to myself, hidden away in the vault, on the shelf, in the back of my mind… but I should have shared it. It’s actually beautiful. That’s why I made it in the first place. Sometimes life hurts. You know what I mean. This is the one that got away.”

The man has never stopped surprising us and there is no reason why he would now. Neil Young has released a 12-track album with features from Levon Helm and Karl T Himmel on drums. Additionally, vocals from Emmylou Harris is on the album. The restoration was a whole process that happened only with the help of John Hanlon, and with Chris Bellman mastering the new release.
