‘Never Let Go’ Poised to Scare Its Way to First Box Office Milestone

The latest horror film to hit theatres, ‘Never Let Go’, has only been showing for four days but is already on track to reach its first major milestone. After an opening weekend where each day earned over $1 million, the film is poised to cross the $5 million mark worldwide, with nearly all of that total coming from domestic earnings. Despite opening in just 2,667 theatres in the U.S., the Halle Berry-led movie has successfully drawn audiences, even amidst fierce competition, largely thanks to her standout performance.

Reportedly,  ‘Never Let Go’ had a budget of only $20 million, and it appears the film may recoup that amount during its theatrical run.

While hitting that figure is a significant achievement, it isn’t the sole indicator of a film’s success, yet it remains an important goal. In the latest daily box office rankings,  ‘Never Let Go’ landed in fourth place, trailing behind fellow horror film ‘Speak No Evil’, the new ‘Transformers One’, and the enduringly popular ‘Beetlejuice’. Notably, it managed to outperform ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ in those rankings, marking a win against one of the year’s biggest hits.

As horror films experience a resurgence, standing out amidst the competition is increasingly challenging. Given its young cast and reliance on a single setting,  ‘Never Let Go’ faces an uphill battle for success. However, many critics have responded positively to the film. Jeff Ewing from Collider praised it, noting:

” ‘Never Let Go’ may fall into the familiar trope of horror films set in isolated cabins in the woods, but several elements give it a distinctive feel. The family dynamics enhance the horror and evolve in engaging ways, preventing the confined setting from becoming stale. The tension is consistently palpable, the evil is grotesque and personal, and there are some surprising scares that rank among the year’s best. While the finale could benefit from more context and clarity, it still delivers enough twists and surprises for an enjoyable theatre experience that will linger in the audience’s minds.”

‘Never Let Go’ is on the verge of hitting the $5 million mark at the global box office and is currently available in theatres.
