Nicki Minaj Turned Down a Few Songs Before Recording ‘Barbie World’

Nicki Minaj revealed that she turned down a couple of songs before agreeing to record for the ‘Barbie’ movie soundtrack. The rapper teamed up with Ice Spice and shared their contribution to the upcoming film directed by Greta Gerwig last month. With names like Margot Robbie, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, and others the movie has an amazing cast.

Both of them have put their own twist on the Aqua song ‘Barbie Girl’. The track showcased both of them transported into the Barbie world and beginning a series of adventures, together. They are surrounded by dancers dressed like Ken.

Recently in an interview, Minaj revealed that she eagerly accepted the opportunity to sing for the upcoming film, but initially turned down a couple of songs as she didn’t love them.

“There were a couple of songs that I didn’t love. And then there was another song, well this ‘Barbie’ sample, I loved it. I just wanted it to have a dope drum,” she said, explaining how she settled on ‘Barbie World’.

“The one they sent me I loved, and I jumped on it right away. I’m so excited to be here and be part of this entire moment. I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career so it’s a very full-circle moment for me.”

‘Speed Drive’ by Charli XCX, ‘Angel’ by PinkPantheress, and ‘WATATI’ by Karol G are some of the songs on the ‘Barbie’ movie soundtrack.

Dua Lipa released the lead single ‘Dance The Night’. She is also featured in the film, which will be released on 21st July. Dua has taken on the role of a mermaid version of the famous Mattel doll in the movie.

Lizzo, Tame Impala, HAIM and even the movie’s protagonist, Ryan Gosling, will be included on the soundtrack for the movie.

Last month, Nicki Minaj announced the release date of her much awaited new album on social media. She said that it will be her first full-length album since 2018, and that it will be released in October.

“10/20/23 The Album,” she wrote on Twitter.

Critics are applauding the highly anticipated film calling it “funny, bombastic and very smart”.
