Nicolas Cage’s Ex Sues Son Weston for Assault, Claims Actor Enabled Attack

Christina Fulton, Nicolas Cage’s ex-wife, has sued Weston Coppola Cage and the actor over a year after their adult son reportedly assaulted her.

According to court filings in Los Angeles County, Fulton alleges that Cage allowed their son’s alleged behaviour prior to the incident, ignoring worries about his mental health.

The lawsuit alleges that in 2024 a verbal argument between Fulton and Weston, 34, turned physical.  Fulton disputed that they had ever argued at the time, claiming that she was attempting to get her son care because he was going through a mental health crisis.

After being detained on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in July 2024, Weston was later freed on bond.  After his apprehension, Fulton characterized the assault as vicious and emphasized how crucial it is that her son gets the assistance he so desperately needs.

Given that Weston has a history of violent outbursts, mental health issues, and hurting other people, Fulton accuses Cage, 61, of failing to step in and assist their son.  She claims that despite being fully aware of this, Cage took no action to stop the occurrences from happening again.

Weston allegedly attacked Fulton in the elevator, lobby, and parking lot of his condo building, leaving her with serious injuries, including a concussion, multiple contusions, an eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and psychological distress. Fulton also alleges that Cage funded his downtown Los Angeles condo, which is next to the actor’s own home, and repeatedly bailed Weston out of jail. She also accuses Cage of failing to ensure Weston received necessary psychiatric care, allowing reckless behaviour, and failing to set boundaries that could have stopped the alleged violence.

The petition claims that because Fulton was working on a series at the time, the attack also interfered with her job.  She couldn’t film, go to promotional events, or keep up her professional profile because of the injuries.  She goes on to say that since she lived in dread and was unable to run her business efficiently, she put her company, Cyclish, and a multi-million dollar opportunity at risk.

Weston is accused of assault, battery, deliberate infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress, while Fulton is suing Cage for faulty supervision and negligent undertaking.  A negligence lawsuit is being filed against both the father and the son.

The lawsuit asks for reimbursement for filing-related expenses but does not identify the precise amount of damages she is requesting.
