Nicole Kidman Clarifies Viral 2001 Meme: “It’s From a Film, Not About Tom Cruise Divorce”

Nicole Kidman has revealed the real story behind a widely circulated 2001 image that has gained popularity over time as a meme. She is seen strolling with her arms lifted in what seems to be a triumphant moment in the photo, which was shot around the time her divorce from Tom Cruise was finalized. However, Kidman clarified in a recent interview with British GQ that the image wasn’t related to her own life but rather came from a movie, though she didn’t say which one.

During the 2017 Academy Awards, the Oscar-winning actress reflected on another widely shared moment: the GIF of her clapping with just her palms. She explained that the strange action was caused by her trying to prevent damage to a heavy borrowed ring. “There’s often more to an image than meets the eye,” she said, laughing at the durability of such memes.

Kidman has taken full advantage of her online celebrity, even finding amusement in the memes that were sparked by her AMC theatre ads, which rekindled the public’s love of movies. “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” she added, quoting the campaign’s tagline. She embraced the humorous responses, highlighting her passion for movies.

The actress is presently receiving praise from critics for her role as a corporate executive involved in a romantic relationship with a younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson, in the provocative drama ‘Babygirl’. Kidman said the job was really difficult and left her feeling vulnerable as a person and as a performer. On 25th December, ‘Babygirl’ will be released in theatres.
