Nicole Kidman Reveals She Was Teased For Her Height And Hated Her Body Growing Up

Nicole Kidman, known for her elegance and confidence on the red carpet, has opened up about her past insecurities and body image struggles. In the Hulu documentary series ‘In Vogue: The 90s’, Kidman reflects on her youthful self-doubt and the challenges she faced with her appearance.

The series, which offers an in-depth look at the fashion world of the 1990s through the lens of Vogue and its iconic editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, delves into the decade's style evolution.

In the third episode, designer John Galliano shares his plans to make a significant impact in fashion following Princess Diana’s 1996 Met Gala look. Kidman, a rising star of the '90s, was chosen to wear one of Galliano’s creations for the 1997 Oscars.

Kidman recounted her mixed feelings when Galliano approached her for this special design. She reflected on her past insecurities about her body, saying, “Can you believe it? My whole life, I wanted to be 5’2” and curvaceous and suddenly, being 5’11 and completely sort of skinny and flat chested was like, ‘Great, we can dress you.’”

She also expressed her admiration for the classic style icons of the past, such as Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn, and Grace Kelly. Kidman noted their fashion partnerships with designers, saying, “I grew up watching Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn and Grace Kelly — all these women whose style was created with the designers that they’re affiliated with.” She emphasised the importance of bringing that tradition into Hollywood, suggesting that modern stars should also embrace bespoke fashion from renowned Parisian salons.

Kidman’s candid reflections reveal how her journey with body image and fashion has evolved, highlighting her ongoing respect for the intersection of style and personal expression.
