Nicole Kidman Stars as ‘Babygirl’ in First Look at A24’s Steamy New Drama

Nicole Kidman, an Oscar-winning actress with eight nominations from the Film and Television Academies, is set to deliver a groundbreaking performance in A24’s upcoming film, ‘Babygirl’. Vanity Fair has unveiled the first images from the film, showcasing Kidman alongside co-stars Harris Dickinson and Antonio Banderas. One of the initial photos depicts Kidman’s character, Romy, a powerful New York business executive, in a provocative scene with Samuel (Dickinson), the company’s new intern, in a pool—a situation many companies would consider inappropriate.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman revealed that her role in ‘Babygirl’ is unlike anything she has tackled in her four-decade acting career. She expressed both excitement and trepidation about the film’s bold content, saying, “There’s something in me going, ‘Okay, this was made for the big screen and to be seen with people,’ but then I’m like ‘That’s a high-wire act. I’m not sure if I have that much bravery.’” Despite her extensive experience, Kidman feels this role is a new level of exposure for her.

Recently, Kidman appeared in the age-gap romantic comedy ‘A Family Affair’ with Zac Efron. ‘Babygirl’ was written and directed by Halina Reijn, who is also featured in one of the newly released photos. The image shows Reijn and Kidman together in a sleek high-rise office, planning a scene. Reijn, known for her work on ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ and her directorial debut ‘Instinct’, commented on the film’s appeal, stating, “I know we accomplished one thing, and that is that we made a really hot movie.”

Although the Vanity Fair article does not reveal details about Banderas’ character, one image hints at a romantic moment between his character and Kidman’s Romy. Whether Banderas plays a rival executive or another significant role in Romy’s life remains to be seen. ‘Babygirl’ is slated for theatrical release on December 2024.
