Olivia Rodrigo has formally returned to the studio with her partner Dan Nigro, where it appears that they are working on the follow-up to last year’s smash-hit ‘Sour’ album.

Their return to work was announced the day after Nigro posted a selfie of the two on his Instagram Story, with Rodrigo taking the picture and Nigro holding an acoustic guitar in one hand. In the backdrop, another instrument is propped up against a shelf.

Rodrigo said that the second album’s title has already been chosen, and she previously disclosed that she has ‘a few songs’ in the pipeline for it.

Rodrigo hinted at a more optimistic tone for her second album, in a later interview with Elle, saying that she is ‘certainly not as gloomy’ now as she was when creating ‘Sour.’

On ‘Sour,’ Nigro and Rodrigo collaborated extensively; they co-wrote all but two of the tracks and produced the entire album. The album was released by Geffen last May, and two OTT movies—the concert film ‘Sour Prom’ and the documentary ‘Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film)’—were released in the months that followed. Numerous awards, including three Grammys and six victories at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, were given to the album.

‘Sour’ also rose to the top of the charts all across the world. With it, Rodrigo gave the US Billboard 200 chart, its highest first-week sales for 2021, made UK chart history by becoming the first female artist to have three of the top five singles in the same week, and set a record for the youngest artist to have a UK Number One on two concurrent charts, a feat she accomplished twice in a row.
