Olympics 2024: Celine Dion Speculated to Perform
Celine Dion is said to be getting ready for a comeback performance at the Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony later this week. According to reports, the Canadian superstar was spotted arriving in Paris on 22nd July and is rumoured to be staying at the same hotel as Lady Gaga, who is also expected to perform at the event on 26th July.
Variety reports that Dion is set to perform at the opening ceremony, but specifics about her performance are still undisclosed. The Olympics committee has not yet officially confirmed her participation.
If the rumours prove accurate, it will be Dion’s first performance in several years. The singer, who recently premiered her new documentary ‘I Am: Celine Dion’ on 25th June, was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022, which led her to reschedule and cancel upcoming tours. This disorder, affecting the brain and spinal cord, causes muscle stiffness, posture issues, sensory problems, and painful spasms.
In 1996, Dion performed at the Atlanta Olympics, delivering a rendition of ‘The Power of the Dream’.
The singer has previously shown the challenges she faces while singing due to Stiff Person Syndrome, which affects her vocal performance. In her documentary, Dion revealed that while her lungs are healthy, the rigidity in her chest area impairs her ability to sing, causing her voice to crack. She expressed her difficulty in sharing this experience and reflected on her past achievements with a sense of pride.

Dion has described her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome as one of the most challenging experiences of her life, emphasizing her efforts to live as normally as possible and her determination to return to the stage. Before her appearance in Paris and the release of her documentary, her most recent public appearance was at the 2024 Grammys, where she presented the Album of the Year award to Taylor Swift.
