‘OutRun’: Michael Bay and Sydney Sweeney to Kickstart Movie Inspired by Racing Video Game

Sydney Sweeney and Michael Bay are collaborating to adapt the classic Sega video game series ‘OutRun’ for the big screen.
Bay is directing and producing the picture, which is now under development at Universal Pictures. In addition to her involvement in the project, Sydney Sweeney will serve as a producer, and Jayson Rothwell will write the screenplay. The plot’s specifics are still being kept secret.
Brad Fuller is also working on the movie, which is being made by Bay’s production company, Platinum Dunes. Due to Platinum Dunes’ first-look agreement with Universal, the studio receives early access to films like these. Sega Corporation president Shuji Utsumi is supervising the production to make sure it adheres to the cherished game franchise, while Toru Nakahara is producing the movie from the Sega side.

‘OutRun’, which was first launched in 1986, became a pivotal game for Sega. Players must drive through traffic and hazards in a time-sensitive dash to the finish line in this game. Thanks to several follow-up games throughout the years, its ongoing success has made it one of Sega’s most recognisable series.
After ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, and ‘Minecraft’ became huge box office hits, Hollywood began to embrace video game adaptations more and more. In addition, Universal is preparing for the release of ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’, the follow-up to its popular horror version of the video game series.
