Petition to Withdraw Ye from Coachella Line-Up Gains Momentum

Over 25,000 people have signed a petition to remove Ye from the 2022 Coachella line-up which was started by fans. Following Ye’s ban on Instagram for a post against Trevor Noah that featured racial obscenities, a person using the alias Kim Pete started a Change.org petition on 17th March. On a recent episode of The Daily Show, Noah discussed Ye’s behaviour towards ex-wife Kim Kardashian, calling it “terrifying to watch.”

The caption on the petition reads: “We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate, and hurt Kim, Pete, and others for over a year now. No one seems to want to stand up to him, and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well.

“Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others. This is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform.”

West released an animated video for his recent single ‘Eazy’ – a collaboration with The Game that was released in January, depicting a caricature of Ye kidnapping and brutalising Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson (who is currently dating Kardashian).

Davidson later responded to Ye, writing in a leaked text exchange: “I’ve decided I’m not gonna let you treat us like this anymore and I’m done being quiet.”

Coachella returns from April 15-17 and April 22-24 in Indio, California, with Ye, Billie Eilish, and Harry Styles slated to headline the festival’s comeback. Ye had threatened to pull out of his headline set at Coachella this year after mistaking Billie Eilish’s recent statements for accusations directed at Travis Scott.

“Trav will be with me at Coachella but now I need Billie to apologise before I perform,” he wrote in a caption.

Scott was supposed to co-headline, but he was supposedly dropped from the list following the Astroworld tragedy, in which a crowd surge during the rapper’s headline set killed ten people and injured hundreds more. A judge granted Kardashian single status earlier this month (2nd March), bringing her divorce from Ye one step closer.

In other developments, Ye’s Grammy appearance in 2022 was apparently cancelled due to “concerning online behaviour.” Trevor Noah is due to host the Grammys in 2022, though it’s unclear whether this was a factor in the decision to pull Ye’s performance from the schedule.
