The next James Bond should be British, Pierce Brosnan has said.
This announcement comes after rumours circulated that the character will continue to be British and male under the new control of Amazon MGM Studios. Bond's gender and nationality will remain the same, according to an internal memo that apparently circulated within the studio, albeit the next actor may come from a different Commonwealth nation. Amazon has not formally responded to these allegations.
"It is a clear choice for the role to go to a British actor," Brosnan, who played the famed spy in four films from 1995 to 2002 before Daniel Craig took over, told The Daily Telegraph. Additionally, he applauded producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson's choice to hand up creative control of the brand to Amazon, expressing hope that the new management would handle the character with respect and creativity.

Brosnan acknowledged that although the notion is appealing, change is inevitable and said that it could be best to leave the character to a fresh actor despite speculations of his possible comeback as an older James Bond.
Some fans have voiced worries that Bond's future may be in jeopardy without Broccoli and Wilson's enduring creative influence since Amazon acquired the brand. The next Bond movie has not been officially announced, and there is still conjecture about who will play the part. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill are often brought up as possible contenders.
