Prince Is Alive

Artists like John Legend, Alicia Keys and H.E.R are all set to pay tribute to Prince, the god of funk, at the Grammy’s Special.

The Grammy’s have invited several artists some of whom are Beck, Wind and Fire, Chris Martin and Usher to pay homage to the soul legend on January 28th at the LA Convention Center. The event is to be called “Lets Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince!”.

The high priest of pop, Prince was a pioneer musician who slammed in the idea of binary gender through his music. He is also, to this date, the youngest producer to sign with Warner Brothers Records, at the age of 18.

During his career, Prince was shunned by the mainstream media for releasing sexually explicit music that wasn’t doing well with the largely Catholic, white population at the time. A lot of his songs did not fare well with his listeners, some of whom started the Parents Music Resource Center to censor his songs that apparently “implied messages like grinding and masturbation.”

All that drama, and many years later, he still remains an icon of acceptance and hope to the LGBTQ community.

Ken Elrich, a Prince mega fan and longtime Grammy producer is set to be the executive producer of this GRAMMYs special and was quoted saying “His Grammy appearances, though few, were historic, and it’s with mixed feelings that we approach this opportunity to celebrate the amazing legacy he left us. We’ve gathered a remarkable collection of artists across genres and across generations to salute one of music’s truly singular iconic writer/performers, and believe me, it’s a tall order to do him justice.”

It is going to be very hard to do justice to a revolutionary artist like The Purple Man. But, hey, we can only try, right?
