Raja Kumari Spits Fire in New Track “N.R.I”
Raja Kumari has only ever competed with herself. And if you look at the scoreboard — you will find that she is winning. Earlier in the month, after having signed with the label, Mass Appeal, which has a partnership with Universal Music India – she’s now all geared up to drop a new album.
But first — here is a single, unleashed. NRI (Non-Resident Indian) is an undoubted hit that has taken off right at its launch. Raja Kumari, “bindi on your third eye but your third eye closed.” Then talking about the label duo she has just signed with, she sings, “too brown for the label too privileged for the co-sign.”
Raja Kumari has recruited quite the star cast in order to craft this single. This one’s been produced by American record producer and songwriter Rob Knox and co-written by Grammy award-winning artist, Sirah.
Additionally, resounding with all third-culture kids, the lyrics talk about the duality in the upbringing and the sense of belonging yet alienation predominant in all cultures; Raja Kumari strikes gold.
Raja Kumari launched to fame a few years ago, making her mark as one of the front runners of the female rap movement. She has collaborated with the likes of Fifth Harmony, Iggy Azaelea, Fall Out Boy and Gwen Stefani.
All too real, yet a bop, nonetheless. So give this one a listen and of course, get ready to give your mood a spin.
