Raja Kumari’s “Divine” Colaboration
Grammy nominated singer, Raja Kumari, has released her brand new song – ‘Bindis & Bangles’. Last we heard from the Indian- American singer-songwriter was when she co-wrote and performed ‘Roots’ and ‘City Slums’ in collaboration with the artist ‘Divine’.
The new track is produced by Zero and co-written with Divine.
In the music video, Raja Kumari can be seen as a ghost who keeps tuning into reality and is looked upon as a Goddess from another dimension. It can be seen as an ode to our past and the future, all the while reflecting on India’s culture.
There are sages and dancers who perform while being equipped with futuristic tools. The aim of the video, it would seem, is to spread the message of how spirituality is important in times of fast-paced technological growth and can be achieved without the constant indulgence of technology.
The video has been directed by ‘The Fictionary’, but the whole concept of it was curated by an all-female team, in collaboration with Sam Madhu, the director of ‘Karma’ from Kumari’s album, ‘Bloodline’.
While she talks about the track, Raja says “Bindis and Bangles is my most ambitious project. Working with an all-female team was empowering and inspiring. The Bindi for me is the third eye, and the visual encourages all to keep their third eye open. I’m so excited to share this song with all my fans.”
“I’m so excited to share with you the new music video for ‘Bindis and Bangles’. This song has been so important to me, and I hope you enjoy the visual world we created for it,” Raja Kumari said.
From our side, we have nothing but love for the Indian rap goddess who has made her mark in the Westren music world, bringing India to the fore, all while staying true to her roots – staying dedicated to Indian beats while rapping in English. She has also dipped her feet in different areas of creativity, co-starring in the movie, ‘Gully Boy’ and is a host and curator of Apple Music Beats 1 show.
