Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche Reunite in ‘The Return’ Trailer Nearly 30 Years After ‘The English Patient’

‘The Return’, a gripping new movie starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche, will be released in theaters on 6th December. Two actors star in a revised retelling of Homer’s ‘Odyssey’, over thirty years after their famous parts in ‘The English Patient’ (1996).

Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, is portrayed by Fiennes in this rendition as having finally made it home following the Trojan War, only to discover that his return is everything but joyous. Haunted by the deaths of his soldiers, the teaser shows Odysseus struggling with doubt and guilt as he considers how people would respond to his return.

Binoche portrays his wife Penelope, who is surrounded by suitors who want to marry her and has become a prisoner in her own house. In the meantime, Charlie Plummer’s character, their son Telemachus, has to deal with the threat these suitors offer.

‘The Return’, which was co-written and directed by Uberto Pasolini, also features Ángela Molina, Marwan Kenzari, and Claudio Santamaria. The movie follows Odysseus as he battles to defend his family, faces his past, and tries to regain his former love. Intense sequences in the trailer, such as Fiennes brandishing weapons in a dramatic battle, showcase his character’s unadulterated might.

At the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, when the movie had its global debut, Fiennes and Binoche both spoke of their happiness at working together again. Binoche remembered their long-standing friendship from their previous work together with fondness. Pasolini thanked the gifted pair for their collaboration, lauding their bravery in their parts and amazing on-screen presence.

On 6th December, ‘The Return’ will be released in theatres.
