Rap God is a Billionaire
Eminem’s music video for the 2013 viral hit “Rap God” has finally hit 1 billion views, and the Internet is celebrating.
The track made serious headlines when it was first released, given just how Eminem it was – the extra fast rapping, the savage burns and his general “idgaf” attitude, just dialed up x 1000 times. The track is a self-proclamation of Slim Shady’s rapping abilities and status as the Rap God of the industry.
Well, cut to 7 years later and the video has officially reached 1 billion videos, making it one of the 119 videos out of the billions on YouTube to reach the milestone. Mathers himself tweeted about the landmark of the video, counting down the views until it reached the billion; the Tweet quoted the lyric “Everybody loves to root for a nuisance”, not that we expect you to know that because who actually has a clue what he’s saying in the 6 minute long track.
The track saw a surge in interaction after the rapper’s surprise performance at the Oscars (one that left every attendee just as confused as the viewers). He took the stage to perform his Academy Award-winning track “Lose Yourself”, taking over Internet trends for hours after the ceremony ended.
“Rap God” currently stands at 1.2 billion views. Maybe all that (over) self-confidence isn’t so misplaced after all.
