The former lead guitarist of the The Beatles was also known as the ”quiet beatle” . He was diagnosed with cancer and passed away 18 years ago on the 29th of November 2001 at the age of 58 . Here are some of the masterpieces Harrison had written for the band:
Taxman: Taxman is the lead track from the band’s seventh studio album “Revolver” which released in 1966. The song was written in a bout of rage, directed towards the progressive tax taken by the British Labour government at that time. Harrison said “ as we started earning money, we were actually giving most of it away on taxes.”
Within You Without You: Harrison was known for his devotion towards the Indian Culture. This song was inspired by the late Ravi Shankar and it features Indian instruments like the tabla, dilruba, and the sitar. ‘Within you Without you’ is a song from 1967 Beatles album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” which has quite a profound meaning, the song has ideas incorporated from Indian Philosophy in its lyrics. A good example of this would be the line, “Never glimpse the truth, then it’s far too late when they pass away”
While My Guitar Gently Weeps: A song from the band’s ‘White Album’ which was released in the year 1968. Harrison was inspired by the Chinese book of changes “I Ching” and this song was a collaboration with the iconic BeeGees singer, Eric Clapton.
Here Comes The Sun: Here Comes the Sun is a song from the album “Abbey road”, which reveals Harrison’s relief over the arrival of Spring. He wrote this song, hiding away at Eric Clapton’s Country house, to avoid the Beatles meeting. Yup, you read that right.
Something: Something is a song from the 1969 Beatles album ‘Abbey Road’, which was written out of love for Harrison’s first wife, Pattie Boyd. The single came strong at No1. On the US Billboard Hot 100 and No.4 in UK.
