Paying Tribute to Marie Fredriksson

Roxette singer, Marie Fredriksson, died after a 17-year long battle with cancer. She was 61 years old. Fredriksson collapsed after a workout in 2002, following which she was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

The Swedish star achieved major success in the 1990s with bandmate Per Gessle. After staying off the stage for a few years, owing to treatment, she bounced back in 2008 and continued touring with Roxette until three years ago.

Gessle issued a statement which said, “Thank you, Marie, thanks for everything. You were an outstanding musician, a master of the voice, an amazing performer. Thanks for painting my black and white songs in the most beautiful colours. You were the most wonderful friend for over 40 years.”

We remember the three songs that skyrocketed the Swedish star to fame and kept Roxette’s songs on the lips of people for decades. Today, we look back at some of her iconic moments on stage; she will live on forever.

‘Listen To Your Heart’ by Roxette stole everyone’s hearts and the live performance of the same in Santiago back in 2012 is one of their most iconic performances as it connected beyond boundaries.

‘It Must Have Been Love’ by the Swedidh pop duo became one of their most successful power ballads and this live rendition in Berlin proves it all the way.

‘The Look’ stands to be Roxette’s defining chartbusters and the live performance at the O2 Arena in London got the crowd swooning beyond belief.
