Ringo Starr Reveals That Barry Keoghan Will Take on his Role in Sam Mendes’ Biopic
Ringo Starr has hinted that Barry Keoghan may play him in Sam Mendes’ upcoming biopic series about The Beatles. Mendes previously revealed plans for four interconnected films, each exploring the story of a different band member, with the project expected to conclude by mid-2028.
During an appearance on Variety’s Stagecraft podcast, Mendes described the project as his primary focus for the next several years, joking that he wouldn’t re-emerge until its completion in 2028.
While official casting details remain unconfirmed, rumours have been circulating about the actors set to portray the Fab Four. Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter speculated that Paul Mescal could take on the role of Paul McCartney. Reports from The InSneider suggested Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Charlie Rowe as George Harrison.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Starr appeared to confirm Keoghan’s involvement. He shared his excitement about the casting, mentioning that Keoghan was reportedly learning to play the drums for the role, though he humourously hoped the lessons wouldn’t be “too many.”
This project is significant as the first scripted series to obtain full rights to The Beatles’ life stories and music from Apple Corps Ltd. and the band’s families. Scheduled for release in 2027, the films’ release strategy is described as “innovative and groundbreaking,” with further details expected closer to the premiere.
According to Production List, the first film in Mendes’ series is set to begin filming in London in July 2025. Meanwhile, Midas Man, another Beatles-related biopic centered on their manager Brian Epstein, will premiere on Prime Video on October 30.
