The highly anticipated musical film Better Man has generated significant buzz with the release of its first trailer, which creatively portrays pop icon Robbie Williams as a monkey. In this unique take on Williams’ life story, actor Jonno Davies provides both the motion-capture performance and voice for the character, while Williams himself lends his singing talent to the project.

The storyline spans Williams’ journey from his childhood to his time as the youngest member of the chart-topping boyband Take That, ultimately showcasing his exceptional achievements as a record-breaking solo artist. Along the way, the film addresses the myriad challenges that accompany immense fame and success.

The decision to visualise Williams as a monkey is rooted in the director’s interpretation of his life. In an interview Gracey explained, “To see himself as a performing monkey wasn’t just whilst he was famous — it was his whole life.” This portrayal reflects Williams’ early experiences, where he consistently performed for his peers in Stoke and entertained his family at home.

Gracey further emphasised the emotional depth of the character, noting that the audience would “fall in love with this character, this little monkey.” By establishing this narrative contract early in the film, viewers are invited to embark on an emotional journey alongside this whimsical representation of Williams, engaging with his story on a deeper level.

The film promises to blend Williams’ life experiences with an imaginative visual narrative, aiming to resonate with fans old and new. With its distinctive approach to storytelling, ‘Better Man’ is poised to offer an engaging and heartfelt exploration of a music legend’s life.
