Robert Pattinson Keeps Dying in New Sneak Peek of ‘Mickey 17’

After winning an Oscar in 2019 for ‘Parasite’, director Bong Joon-ho is gearing up to promote his next film, ‘Mickey 17’. Empire Magazine has released two new images featuring Robert Pattinson and Mark Ruffalo from the highly anticipated sci-fi film, set to hit theaters on January 31, 2025. One of the images showcases Pattinson as Mickey 17 alongside another version of himself, Mickey 18. The film follows Mickey, an "expendable" who is reincarnated each time he dies while on a never-ending mission to colonize an icy planet. The recently released trailer teased Pattinson’s character humorously meeting his demise in increasingly absurd situations. ‘Mickey 17’ also features Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Steven Yeun, rounding out the impressive cast alongside Pattinson and Ruffalo.

Pattinson first gained fame for his role in the ‘Twilight’ series during the late 2000s and early 2010s, but he has since shed that image, proving himself as a versatile and skilled actor. He recently made waves in the superhero genre as Bruce Wayne in ‘The Batman’, directed by Matt Reeves.

 The film was a massive success, leading to a sequel and a spin-off series, ‘The Penguin’, currently streaming on Max. Additionally, Pattinson showcased his talent in ‘The Lighthouse’, a psychological thriller directed by Robert Eggers, and collaborated with Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan in the polarizing film ‘Tenet’, a time-traveling action flick that premiered in 2020.

Earlier this month, the MPAA announced that ‘Mickey 17’ will be rated R due to its violent content, language, sexual themes, and dr*g-related material. This news was well-received by fans who feared that Warner Bros. might aim for a PG-13 rating to attract a broader audience.

The success of R-rated films like ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide, contrasted sharply with the recent underperformance of PG-13 films such as ‘Argylle’ and ‘Furiosa’. This indicates that the success of a movie is often more about its quality than its rating.

‘Mickey 17’ is set to arrive in theaters on 31st January, 2025.
