Robert Pattinson Reveals a Horror Movie Scared Him So Much He Slept with Kitchen Knives

In an interview with ‘Mickey 17’ director Bong Joon Ho for GQ, Robert Pattinson, 38, acknowledged that he is no longer as fearless when it comes to horror films as he once was. He talked about how his relationship with scary movies has changed over time, saying that, although it seems counterintuitive—most people would assume that as they get older, they would become less scared of horror films—he can’t watch them anymore.

While Pattinson acknowledged that parenthood may have exacerbated his phobia of horror films, Bong joked that it might be because he became a father.

He was especially shaken by one recent encounter.  He remembered seeing a scary movie before meeting with the director for a project that had nothing to do with it.  He was so tense after watching the movie that he thought someone was attempting to break into his residence.  He waited for an intruder while sitting on his couch and holding two kitchen knives as a precaution.

He eventually dozed off while still holding knives close to his neck.  When Suki Waterhouse, his girlfriend, entered, she was shocked to see him in that condition.  She was astonished to discover him sleeping with two knives and asked what was going on right away.  In retrospect, Pattinson thinks the noise that startled him was probably simply a squirrel.

Beyond horror movies, he also finds dance scenes nerve-racking. He felt totally out of his element while filming ‘Die, My Love’ with Jennifer Lawrence and director Lynne Ramsay. Lawrence and Ramsay are both experienced dancers, so they advised him to just follow the music. However, Pattinson struggled, claiming he was sweating a lot and about to lose it. He begged for either a choreographed routine or for the scene to be cut, but they insisted that he just relax and start dancing.
