Roger Waters Shares New Video Of ‘Gunner’s Dream’

Roger Waters and band shared a new studio recording and video for ‘The Gunner’s Dream’ recently. Waters assembled his touring band remotely to record one of his last contributions to Pink Floyd. 

Waters unveiled the isolation video for the revised song, originally released by Pink Floyd on 1983’s “The Final Cut”.  

Dreams Of A Safer World

The song from Pink Floyd’s 1983 album, “The Final Cut”, tells the story of a dying airman who dreams of a safer, better world, without war.The new video is a collaboration between Roger Waters and Sean Evans. ‘The Gunner’s Dream’ features Roger Waters on piano and vocals along with guitarists Jonathan Wilson and Dave Kilminster. Present also is keyboardists Jon Carin and Bo Koster, bassist Gus Seyffert and drummer Joey Waronker. Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig of Lucius provide backing vocals.

Waters paired the video release with a note where he said;

“The world cannot be ruled It can only be loved and respected and shared. If we’re still here in the morning So here is a new recording and video of “The Gunner’s Dream” As a gift from me and my lovely band and our friends To you With our love – R.”

A Deeper Meaning

The black-and-white video commences with an ominous statement, “I had a dream.” The repeated phrase takes on added meaning as Roger Waters shared the song on January 18th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the U.S.

 In the note attached to the video, Waters points out that it was “Dr. King’s name day.” HIs note also includes his thoughts on Stanislav Petrov, and what he would do if he ran the world.
