Ryan Gosling Reportedly in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy’s Upcoming ‘Star Wars’ Film

According to reports, Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in a forthcoming ‘Star Wars’ movie directed by Shawn Levy, which might soon replace his ‘Barbie’ world with the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy. Gosling may be considering a leading part in the unnamed film, according to the rumour, which was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
For more than two years, Shawn Levy, who directed ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, has been working on this ‘Star Wars’ film. He and Jonathan Tropper, who joined in the middle of 2024, are co-writing the project. The two have previously worked together on movies such as ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘This Is Where I Leave You’. Alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Levy will produce the movie under his 21 Laps production banner.
Although the premise is still unknown, indications suggest the movie will be a stand-alone narrative set in the ‘Star Wars’ world. Disney has not yet responded to inquiries about the proposal.

Gosling, 44, may change Levy’s directorial priorities if he formally joins the ensemble. With Gosling on board, the ‘Star Wars’ movie might take precedence over his original plans for a boy band comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Filming on ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, the next ‘Star Wars’ film, concluded in December and is scheduled to open in theatres on 22nd May 2026. Levy’s project is a much-anticipated addition to the franchise because previously announced films have seen delays or revisions since the 2019 release of ‘Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker’.

Having co-starred with Harrison Ford, who is most known for portraying Han Solo in several ‘Star Wars’ films, in ‘Blade Runner’ 2049, Gosling is no stranger to sci-fi roles. In addition to his most recent role in ‘The Fall Guy’, Gosling has received praise for his roles in ‘Barbie’, ‘La La Land’, and ‘Half Nelson’, all of which got him nominations for an Oscar. In March 2026, his next film, ‘Project Hail Mary’, which was co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, will be released.
